InterpPlay Online workshops
In response to the current situation InterpPlay has moved online to continue to provide high quality training. We are currently offering 2 workshops:
- Role Shift for Performance
- Using Space in Theatre & Sign Language
We welcome both qualified and registered trainee BSL/English interpreters with and without previous theatre experience.
InterpPlay Introduction
A one-day workshop introducing theatre as an audiovisual text, and exploring the challenges that that presents for an interpreter working into a visual language.

InterpPlay One
A two-day series of workshops introducing text and performance analysis, examining the theories of interpreting and strategies helpful to the theatre interpreter, and exploring the impact of the sign language interpreter upon the audience and the performance.
*Participants must have completed the Interplay Introduction workshop to enrol on InterpPlay One.
InterpPlay Two
A 6-day series of workshops over three weekends. Invited theatre professionals lead sessions and share their knowledge, and interpreters try out and consolidate new approaches in a safe, supportive environment, with professional actors and prepared scenes.
*Participants must have completed the Interplay One workshop to enrol on InterpPlay Two.
InterpPlay Apprenticeship
After the completion of InterpPlay Two, participants will have a unique opportunity to shadow a professional theatre company throughout its production process, and to interpret at least one complete performance each.
*Dates will be arranged to suit both apprentices and the theatre company.
